Frequently Asked Questions

What should I look for in a delivery gown?

Comfort! Feeling uncomfortable and anxious can actually slow the progress of labor!

The Loula is made from very soft, stretchy fabric that feels wonderful against your skin. The colors and patterns camouflage spots and stains. The fabric dries quickly. The patterns and the design of the gown is pretty and flattering, and keeps your backside covered when you want it to be!

Function! The Loula is designed by a labor and delivery nurse. The Loula accommodates monitoring, IVs, assessments, epidurals, blood pressure cuffs, bath tubs, yoga balls, massage and everything in-between. The Loula is approved by doctors, midwives, nurses and anesthesiologists.

What size should I order?

The Loula is soft and stretchy and flows from the bottom of the bustline down. The bra top is the most fitted piece, so you may choose to select your size based on what you would wear in a sports bra top. Most moms order based on the size they would normally select for themselves.

I need a larger size. Are they available?

Our newest prints are now available in XXL and 1X!

Why is the Loula better than the other birth gowns out there?

The Loula is the first patent pending gown that transforms into separates! Other birth gowns still feature a full length design and a lot of fabric. As your labor progresses you may find that a full gown gets in the way. Many moms find a full gown cumbersome with position changes, and are constantly getting tangled up in the fabric or choking on the neckline as it gets pulled this way and that. In active labor, less is more. The Loula gives you the option to take off anything that’s in the way, and gives you an option for using hydrotherapy while keeping your chest supported if you wish. It’s the first truly versatile gown. You never know which way your labor journey will wander, and Loula has your back(side).

Do I need underwear for the hospital?

The hospital will provide you with disposable underwear, which are functional and comfortable for holding the giant pads you will need. However, they are not cute and are see-through, which features your backside quite prominently. MelBelle Bottoms are soft, comfortable and supportive. They hold the giant pads securely and feature dark colors to camouflage the inevitable pad leak. (Yes, it’s a messy business). The ruffled MelBelles also add a cute, whimsical look to your backside-why not have a little fun with it?
